VRI Bowls
The VRI Bowls Club plays regular games amongst it’s own members and other Clubs.
The Club plays throughout the year, both summer and winter, and travel around playing at various Bowls Clubs in regular competitions. Members enter games they want to nominate for, and teams are selected each game, and change often.
It is a happy Club, with Members coming from all over Victoria and interstate to play at our games.
We look forward to welcoming new players to the Club and seeing you join in the fun of VRI Bowls at our games in the future.

HISTORY.
The VRI Bowls Club began playing in the 1930's participating in the ANZRI Intersystem Bowls Carnival in 1935.
The Victorian Railways Institute originally was the main place where Public Transport employees received on the job training, and also provided sporting and recreational activities for members.
As part of the Victorian Railways institute, the VRI Bowls Club provides a place where members of public transport employees and other VRI members can participate in fellowship and common interest to play lawn bowls.
The VRI Bowls Club does not have a permanent club, but rather is made up of members of the VRI who are lawn bowlers. The members come together a number of times each year to play lawn bowls at various venues.
Once in every two years the VRI Bowls Club participates in the ANZRI (Australia and New Zealand Railway Institutes) Intersystem Bowls Carnivals. This is between 4 states of Australia and New Zealand. New South Wales will host the next Carnival.
ANZRI BOWLS CARNIVAL:
Games offered during the Carniv al are Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours played in the mornings and Fours and Reserve Fours in the afternoon, subject to entry conditions.
Carnival places are much sought after, as the coming together of like individuals from all around Australia and New Zealand, with very competitive attitudes on the field of play, and good fellowship are formed over the years.
Partners of members are most welcome to attend any organised bowls tournaments .
Make the most of your VRI Membership and play organised bowls throughout the year.
VRI BOWLS CLUB Annual Sports Report 2021
The VRI Bowls has had been very quiet in the last two years. Due to COVID we have not been able to go away on weekends to play or recruit new members. In 2020 we had just finished hosting the ANZRI Carnival in Moama and a week later went into lock down due to COVID since then every time the club has booked a venue and motels to go away, we had to cancel this has also happened in 2021. With having members both metropolitan and regional it has been very frustrating for all. Hopefully in 2022 we will be able to get away.
The ANZRI Carnival has been cancelled which was scheduled to be played in Ballina NSW 2022 with COVID it now has been rescheduled for 2023 in Ballina NSW. This has been agreed by all institutes that participated in the carnival. COVID has impacted all clubs in their activities and the VRI Bowls Club hope that 2022 will be a better year for clubs associated with the VRI.
